This is an example of a sideless surcote (or "surcoat"). Very popular in the 12th and 13th centuries, there were both male and female versions (see illustration below).

I have lined the sleeve openings with real fur. Other noted embellishments are the beads sewn along the neckline and a decorative belt.

The surcote was usually worn over a cotehardie.
